Concussion Course – Recognition and Return to Work and Sport

Course objectives:

This 1-day workshop is tailored for kinesiologists who wish to update their knowledge to the most recent developments in concussion recognition and recovery. We will discuss the 11 R’s outlined by the 5th Consensus Statement on Concussion in Sport. You will confidently be able to identify recovery patterns. You will learn and participate in evidence-based rehabilitation strategies to facilitate concussion recovery and improve general conditioning, understanding nuances and barriers that can make these strategies difficult to implement.

  • Rehabilitation Strategies
  • Hands on and Case Study Applications

After completion of the workshop you will be able to identify key strategies that are effective in promoting recovery in difficult concussion situations and feel confident referring to interdisciplinary practitioners. You will immediately begin effectively implementing, appropriately dosing and progressing exercise in clinics, rehabilitation centers and sports fields for recovery and resolution of concussion.

Instructor: Codi Isaac

Codi (MScPT 2007) works in inter-disciplinary, private practice and sporting environments. She is a Sport Physiotherapist (Cert.) and is passionate about restoring her patient’s function and participation in life, work and recreational activities. She has achieved Duke Vestibular Competency and has more than 10 years experience in Concussion Management.

Codi is a project team member for Physiotherapy Alberta’s Concussion Management: A Toolkit for Physiotherapists, and Alberta Health Service’s Pediatric Concussion Knowledge Topic, Working Group Member.
Her research experience includes UofA’s team Evaluating a Functional Testing Protocol for Assessing Balance Recovery at Return to Play following Adolescent Sport Related Concussion and with the Glen Sather Sports Medicine Clinic Interdisciplinary Complex Concussion Clinic: Evaluation of a Novel Model of Collaborative Care.

Codi spends time caring for athletes in hockey, gymnastics, soccer, rugby, football and curling. She has a heart for youth athletics and injury prevention.

Family time is spent watching NCAA Division 1 Women’s Hockey and Track and Field events or Red Bull Crashed Ice events where her daughter and son compete in their respective sports.

Lunch is not included in this event; however, there are many restaurants nearby Isaac Physio including: Subway, Tokyo Noodle Shop and Sushi Bar, Asian Express Hotpot, Syphay Restaurant, LETS Gril and more.

Registration opens at 7:30am and the course will begin at 8:00am.
